Google Health: The First Year

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Google Health was first launched publicly exactly 1 year ago today. As a launch partner with Google, we released the Heart Attack Risk Calculator on behalf of the American Heart Association. This risk calculator, which estimates users’ 10-year risk of a heart attack, was one of the first consumer health risk assessment tools to leverage the power of a personal health record (PHR). Google Health integration helps take the hard work out of completing a health risk assessment tool by automatically accessing the answers to health questions from users’ Google Health profiles. Because the Heart Attack Risk Calculator was the first Google Health application to offer bi-directional communication, users received the additional benefit of being able to update their Google Health profile if they had newer information.

Over the last year, as an approved Google Health Integration Consultant we have built 2 more applications that run on the Google Health platform. In February, we released the Go Red Heart CheckUp on behalf of the Go Red for Women campaign. This tool has been featured in a number of web and national television ads.

In April, we launched the My Diabetes Health Assessment tool with the Heart of Diabetes campaign. The My Diabetes Health Assessment is designed to provide cardiovascular risk info for users with type 2 diabetes.

In the next year, we look forward to several additional Google Health (and Microsoft HealthVault) linked health tools for our clients. In addition, we are working on the next phase of these tools that allow for ongoing health tracking and real-time risk calculations. We are excited to extend the work we have done on our current rich web applications to: desktop reminder applications, mobile applications for iPhone and Google Android, and website widgets for portals and social network sites.

Medicom Digital Goes Red for Women!

Monday, February 9th, 2009

The American Heart Association asked Medicom Digital to develop the heart attack risk assessment tool for their new 2009 Go Red for Women website.

Medicom Digital developed the Go Red Heart CheckUp using algorithms from the Framingham Heart Study to calculate a personal risk of heart attack for each user based on a short questionnaire. This new health assessment launched on the AHA website just in time for National Wear Red Day, February 6, 2009.

If you would like to try out the new Go Red Heart CheckUp, go to http://www.goredforwomen.org and click “Go Red Heart CheckUp” in the menu bar. Registration is required.
