Some of our developers are headed to the Google IO conference this week in San Francisco where we will be learning about new technologies surrounding the Google Health platform, OpenSocial (Google’s common social networking platform), and Android (the “gPhone” software). If you are headed to the conference from the health arena, we’d love to meet up with you. Drop us a line on our contact form.

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009New Targeted Therapies Tutorial Launches on NCI Website
Wednesday, May 20th, 2009A new animated tutorial developed by Medicom Digital for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is now available on Cancer.gov. This hour long tutorial provides an extensive visual overview of targeted therapies and how they work. It will offer physicians who treat patients with life-threatening cancers a comprehensive tool to educate them on these ground-breaking new therapies.
In addition to the Overview module that launched this week, we are currently working with the NCI to develop additional modules specifically addressing targeted therapies for breast, multiple myeloma, lymphoma, lung, and colon cancers. If you are interested in funding one of these modules or a module for another cancer type, please contact us.
In addition to 3D animations, video, voiceover, and text, the Medicom Digital’s new tutorial engine features hierarchical navigation, searching, bookmarking, quizzes and more. We will be posting more information about our new tutorial engine in the coming days.

Google Health: The First Year
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009Google Health was first launched publicly exactly 1 year ago today. As a launch partner with Google, we released the Heart Attack Risk Calculator on behalf of the American Heart Association. This risk calculator, which estimates users’ 10-year risk of a heart attack, was one of the first consumer health risk assessment tools to leverage the power of a personal health record (PHR). Google Health integration helps take the hard work out of completing a health risk assessment tool by automatically accessing the answers to health questions from users’ Google Health profiles. Because the Heart Attack Risk Calculator was the first Google Health application to offer bi-directional communication, users received the additional benefit of being able to update their Google Health profile if they had newer information.
Over the last year, as an approved Google Health Integration Consultant we have built 2 more applications that run on the Google Health platform. In February, we released the Go Red Heart CheckUp on behalf of the Go Red for Women campaign. This tool has been featured in a number of web and national television ads.
In April, we launched the My Diabetes Health Assessment tool with the Heart of Diabetes campaign. The My Diabetes Health Assessment is designed to provide cardiovascular risk info for users with type 2 diabetes.
In the next year, we look forward to several additional Google Health (and Microsoft HealthVault) linked health tools for our clients. In addition, we are working on the next phase of these tools that allow for ongoing health tracking and real-time risk calculations. We are excited to extend the work we have done on our current rich web applications to: desktop reminder applications, mobile applications for iPhone and Google Android, and website widgets for portals and social network sites.
If you are looking for clever, well-designed health tools that motivate users to make healthy decisions, please contact us.
